Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治蠱疰痢. 黃連 二兩, 黃栢ㆍ羚羊角(鎊) 各一兩半, 白茯苓 一兩. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 茶淸下五七十丸. 《得效》

Translation

Treats the worm-curse dysentery. Coptis, 2 nyang; phellodendron and antelope horn filed to shavings, 1.5 nyang each; white poria, 1 nyang. Powder, make honey pills the size of a paulownia seed, and take fifty to seventy in clear tea. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four drugs, two of them berberine-bearing, with antelope horn for the heat in the blood and poria to drain. Taken in tea, which adds its own tannins. The horn is restricted and the formula loses little by its omission — the coptis and phellodendron are doing the work against the organism the chapter could not see. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
