Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治赤白痢及蠱疰痢. 乾薑(炒)ㆍ松烟墨(煆). 右等分爲末, 醋煮麵糊和丸梧子大, 空心, 米飮下三五十丸, 日三服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats red and white dysentery, and the worm-curse dysentery. Stir-fried dried ginger and calcined pine-soot ink, equal parts. Powder, make pills with vinegar-boiled wheat paste the size of a paulownia seed, and take thirty to fifty on an empty stomach in rice water, three times a day. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Writing ink as a drug. Pine-soot ink is lampblack bound with glue, so what the patient swallows is finely divided carbon — and activated charcoal is still given for diarrhoea and for binding toxins in the gut. Of all the surprising materials in this chapter this is the one whose mechanism modern practice has most clearly vindicated, though the tradition reached it by way of the ink's blackness answering the black of a bloody stool. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
