Powder, make pills with vinegar paste the size of a paulownia seed, and take fifty to seventy in rice water. — Jesaengbang 濟生 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The worm-curse dysentery is the chapter's name for one thought to be caused by a malign infestation, and the stool it describes is dark, putrid and persistent — which fits amoebic colitis well. The formula treats it as heat toxin in the blood: madder root and sanguisorba to stop the bleeding, rhinoceros horn and coptis for the toxin, cimicifuga to raise. The horn cannot be used and the formula is otherwise coherent without it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
