Clinical commentary 臨床

The wind-extinguishing shelf of the chapter, assembled: arisaema and typhonium to break phlegm, gastrodia and saposhnikovia for the wind, poria to settle, scorpion and musk and cinnabar for the fright. The slug-caterpillar cocoon at the head of the list is the one unusual drug — a small animal material taken for convulsion on the same reasoning as the scorpion, that a creature which moves in spasms will govern spasm. Five fun of powder in breast milk is the whole dose, and five fun is about 2 g of a mixture containing cinnabar. **Contains cinnabar — 朱砂, mercuric sulfide — scorpion, musk, raw arisaema and typhonium, given to a newborn with no dose by weight stated for the child. This must not be prepared.** The mercury paragraph under Jinsa-go-soa applies here in full. Arisaema is severely irritant and toxic unless properly processed and this leaf specifies no processing at all; typhonium is handled as toxic throughout this corpus. There is no treatment for a neonatal seizure in this list. What such a baby needs is a blood glucose, a calcium, a culture and a lumbar puncture, and the cause found. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
