Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治休息痢膿血不止, 疼痛困弱. 當歸ㆍ烏梅肉ㆍ黃連ㆍ阿膠珠各等分. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 空心, 厚朴湯下三五十丸. 病甚者, 蠟丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats the resting dysentery with pus and blood unceasing, pain, exhaustion and weakness. Tangkuei, mume plum flesh, coptis and beaded ass-hide glue, equal parts. Powder, make honey pills the size of a paulownia seed, and take thirty to fifty on an empty stomach in a magnolia-bark decoction. In a severe case, make them with beeswax. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four drugs in equal part — the blood pair and the heat pair — and the instruction worth noting is the last: in a severe case make them with beeswax instead of honey.
