Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治熱痢腹痛, 下純血. 黃連 一兩半, 烏梅肉ㆍ當歸ㆍ枳殼 各一兩. 右末, 醋糊和丸, 米飮下七十丸, 空心. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats hot dysentery with abdominal pain passing pure blood. Coptis, 1.5 nyang; mume plum flesh, tangkuei and bitter orange, 1 nyang each. Powder, make pills with vinegar paste, and take seventy in rice water on an empty stomach. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four drugs where the Shanghanlun's formula of the same name has ten, and a different illness: this is for frank bleeding with pain, not for roundworm reversal. Coptis leads, mume plum astringes, tangkuei moves the blood and bitter orange the qi. The vinegar paste and the sour plum together make it the chapter's most frankly astringent heat formula. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
