Translation

Treats red and white hot dysentery. White peony, 2 don; scutellaria, coptis, costus root and bitter orange, 1.5 don each; tangerine peel, 1 don; roasted licorice, 5 fun. Cut up, make one packet and decoct in water. Also called Geumryeon-jakyak-tang. — Pilyong Bang 必用 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Scutellaria Decoction with coptis added and two qi movers, which is the Pilyong's way of covering both the heat and the tenesmus without rhubarb. For a hot dysentery that has not yet produced an accumulation needing to be purged, this is the better-judged prescription of the section — it clears and moves, and leaves the bowel alone. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
