Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治五色痢及酒痢便血腹痛. 乾絲瓜 一枚, 連皮燒灰爲末, 酒調二錢, 空心服. 《集驗》

Translation

Treats the five-colour dysentery, and wine dysentery with blood in the stool and abdominal pain. One dried loofah, skin and all, burnt to ash and powdered; 2 don stirred into wine and taken on an empty stomach. — Jipheom Bang 集驗 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A single burnt vegetable, taken in wine for a bloody stool — and taken in wine although one of the indications is a dysentery caused by drinking, which the chapter does not remark on. Charred plant material is carbon, so the mechanism is the same as the ink pill earlier, and loofah fibre burnt whole gives a fine ash. It is the sort of remedy a collection called Tested Formulas exists to record. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
