生乾地黃 and 蘇木 are printed with the standard glyphs for the transcription's 黄 and 蘓. 煆 is left as both the transcription and the corpus print it. The transcription sets a space inside 川芎 各一錢半, which is not a textual matter.

Translation

Treats a blow or a crush and a wrench, with torn sinew and broken bone and pain beyond bearing. Dried raw rehmannia and cnidium, 1 don 5 fun each; pyrite (calcined in the fire and quenched in vinegar twelve times, then ground separately), raw aconite root, drynaria, white peony, Korean angelica, frankincense and myrrh, 1 don each. Powder the above and work it up evenly with equal parts of ginger juice and honey, making four pills from each nyang. One pill to a dose, boiled together with 1 don of sappanwood in half a cup of water and half a cup of wine; take the sappanwood out and take the medicine hot on an empty stomach. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Jesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A Blood formula with a bone-setting powder laid over it. The four drugs that carry the weight — dried rehmannia, cnidium, white peony and Korean angelica — are 四物湯 under another name, and on top of them sit the chapter's standing trio for trauma: frankincense, myrrh and pyrite. Drynaria is there because its name says 骨碎補, mender of broken bone. The whole is bound with ginger juice and honey into pills and taken hot in half wine with sappanwood boiled in, so the vehicle is itself a Blood-mover. The honest reading is that the Blood side of this formula is reasonable palliation and the bone side is not. Pyrite calcined and quenched twelve times is a fine iron oxide and sulfide powder; swallowed, it supplies a little iron and reaches a healing fracture in no form at all. A broken bone knits by callus laid down from the periosteum, and what decides whether it knits straight is that the fragments are held still — which this chapter does describe, in the 夾骨法, the splinting method. That leaf, not this one, is the part of the chapter that works. **Contains aconite (川烏), used here raw and unprocessed, which is toxic. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
