Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

專治風人大便秘澁. 羌活ㆍ防風ㆍ猪牙皂角ㆍ枳殼ㆍ桑白皮ㆍ檳榔ㆍ杏仁ㆍ麻仁ㆍ白芷ㆍ陳皮 各等分. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 溫湯下三五十丸. 有熱加大黃. 《得效》

Translation

Treats specifically the stool bound and inhibited in one subject to wind. Notopterygium, saposhnikovia, pig's-tusk soap-pod, bitter orange, mulberry root bark, areca, apricot kernel, hemp seed, angelica dahurica and tangerine peel, equal parts. Powder, make honey pills the size of a paulownia seed, and take thirty to fifty in warm water. If there is heat, add rhubarb. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Ten drugs in equal part, with no purgative unless heat requires one — the wind drugs and the lung drugs doing the work instead. Soap-pod is the chief: its saponins irritate the bowel directly, and the tradition also used it as a suppository, which is the section on the stool-guiding method at the end of this chapter. For a chronic constipation in a patient the chapter calls subject to wind, this is the Deukhyo's standing pill. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
