Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治婦人風秘. 木香ㆍ檳榔ㆍ枳殼各一兩, 麻仁ㆍ大黃(炒) 各三錢. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大, 空心, 白湯下三五十丸. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats wind constipation in women. Costus root, areca and bitter orange, 1 nyang each; hemp seed and stir-fried rhubarb, 3 don each. Powder, make honey pills the size of a paulownia seed, and take thirty to fifty on an empty stomach in plain hot water. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Named for the hemp seed but weighted to the qi movers, which are given at more than three times its dose, and the rhubarb is stir-fried to blunt it. So the formula is gentler than its name suggests — a qi-moving pill with a small purge behind it, for a habitual constipation rather than an acute obstruction. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
