Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治大小便不通如神. 苦丁香五錢, 川烏(炮)ㆍ草烏(炮)ㆍ白芷ㆍ猪牙皂角(炮)ㆍ細辛各三錢, 胡椒一錢, 麝香少許. 右爲細末, 用竹筒將藥吹入肛門內, 卽通. 《回春》

Translation

Treats both passages not passing, with the effect of a spirit. Bitter melon pedicel, 5 don; blast-fried sichuan aconite, blast-fried wild aconite, angelica dahurica, blast-fried pig's-tusk soap-pod and asarum, 3 don each; black pepper, 1 don; a little musk. Grind fine, and with a bamboo tube blow the powder into the anus — it passes at once. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A rectal insufflation delivered through a bamboo tube, and the last formula in the chapter's obstruction sections. Mechanically it would work — any insufflation provokes evacuation — and pharmacologically every active drug in it is a mucosal irritant, two of them aconites. Blown on to an already distended rectum this is capable of real injury, and it names no dose at the mucosa at all. **This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
