Translation

Treats a yin-pattern obstruction of both passages of several days in a critical case; do not use it except in an emergency. Oyster shell, aged wheat flour and blast-fried dried ginger, 1 nyang each. Grind fine. For a man's illness mix it with a woman's saliva, rub it hot between the hands, and press it firmly on the two testicles; when sweat comes he is healed. For a woman's illness mix it with a man's saliva, rub it hot between the hands, and press it firmly on the two breasts; when sweat comes she is healed. For the testicles and the breasts are the root and stalk of man and woman, and belong to the division of the trigrams Kan and Li. — Haejang 海藏 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A yin-pattern retention — cold, collapsed, several days without passing either — treated by rubbing a warm paste on the genitals or breasts until the patient sweats. The theory is trigram correspondence and the cross-sex saliva is sympathetic magic, but the clinical note attached to it is not foolish: the Haejang says plainly that this is for an emergency and should not be used otherwise, which marks it as a last resort rather than a treatment. Warmth and friction over the lower abdomen can in fact relieve a retention by relaxing the sphincter. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
