Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治風秘ㆍ血秘, 大便常常燥結. 此與上<a href='/formulas/sopung-yunjang-hwan'>潤腸丸</a>同, 但皂角用仁. 《東垣》

Translation

Treats wind constipation and blood constipation with the stool constantly dry and bound. This is the same as the Yunjang-hwan above, except that the kernel of the soap-pod is used. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

One formula distinguished from another by which part of a single drug is used — the kernel instead of the burnt pod — and given its own name on that basis. The kernel is oilier and gentler, the burnt pod sharper, so the variant is the milder of the two and suits a stool that is chronically dry rather than acutely stuck.
