Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治同上. 半夏(製) 一兩, 檳榔二錢, 雄黃(水飛) 一錢半. 右爲末, 薑汁浸蒸餠和丸梧子大, 薑湯下三五十丸, 以吐止爲度. 風痰覇絆于脾, 故飮食不下, 用此以治風痰. 《易老》 ○一名安脾丸. 《入門》

Translation

Treats the same as above. Processed pinellia, 1 nyang; areca nut, 2 don; water-ground realgar, 1 don 5 fun. Grind to a powder, make into pills the size of a paulownia seed with steamed cake soaked in ginger juice, and give thirty to fifty with ginger decoction, the measure being that the vomiting stops. Wind phlegm is tethered in the spleen, and so food and drink will not go down; this is used to treat the wind phlegm. ○ Also called Anpi-hwan. — Yeokro 易老 · Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs, and the realgar is the one that decides how this entry has to be read. The construction is pinellia for the phlegm, areca to drive it downward, realgar as the 風 drug — the school's reasoning being that a mineral poison reaches what a plant drug cannot. **Contains realgar, which is an arsenic sulfide and poisonous: arsenic accumulates in the body and causes neuropathy, skin and liver damage, and cancer.
