Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治風痰覇絆脾胃, 飮食不下. 白麪四兩, 半夏ㆍ天南星(並湯洗)ㆍ寒水石(燒) 各一兩, 天麻五錢, 雄黃一錢半. 右爲末, 滴水和丸梧子大, 每取百丸, 先煮漿水沸, 下藥, 煮令浮爲度, 漉出, 生薑湯呑下, 食前. 《易老》

Translation

Treats wind phlegm tethered in spleen and stomach so that food and drink will not go down. Wheat flour, 4 nyang; pinellia and arisaema both washed in hot water, and calcined glauberite, 1 nyang each; gastrodia, 5 don; realgar, 1 don 5 fun. Grind to a powder, make into pills the size of a paulownia seed with water dripped in, and take a hundred at a time: first bring fermented millet water to the boil, drop the pills in, and cook them until they float; then strain them out and swallow them down with ginger decoction, before food. — Yeokro 易老 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Geumhwa-hwan built out with arisaema, calcined glauberite and gastrodia, and bound with wheat flour so that the pills can be cooked like dumplings before they are swallowed. Boiling them in fermented millet water until they float is the preparation step that makes the flour edible and, in the school's reasoning, draws the harshness out of the mineral drugs. **Contains realgar, an arsenic sulfide and a cumulative poison, and both pinellia and arisaema, which are severely irritant in the raw state.
