Clinical commentary 臨床

Undigested-food diarrhoea is the chapter's name for a stool in which the grain comes out whole, and the formula treats it as a cold spleen that has stopped transforming: warming aromatics with ginseng and atractylodes, leaven to digest, and cimicifuga to lift. Areca is the odd member, a drug the tradition uses to bear things downward, and its presence here among the lifting and warming drugs is the formula's hedge against stagnation. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
