Translation
Treats undigested-food diarrhoea with fever, a wiry pulse, abdominal pain and thirst. Saposhnikovia and white peony, 2 don each; scutellaria, 1 don. Cut up and decoct in water. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)
Clinical commentary 臨床
Three drugs, and the four signs in the indication are what make it a formula rather than a guess: fever, a wiry pulse, cramping pain, thirst. Those are the marks of a diarrhoea with heat and tension rather than cold and vacuity, and the prescription answers each — saposhnikovia for the wind, peony for the cramp, scutellaria for the heat. It is the shortest formula in the chapter and among the better reasoned. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
