Translation

Treats wind phlegm breaking out as epilepsy. Pinellia (washed in hot water and powdered, weighed at 6 nyang and divided in two, one part steeped in gleditsia juice and made into leaven, one part steeped in ginger juice and made into leaven); arisaema, 3 nyang (cut up, half steeped overnight in alum water and half in gleditsia water); saposhnikovia, gastrodia, silkworm (stir-fried), typhonium (roasted in ash) and gleditsia pod (stir-fried), 1 nyang each; scorpion (stir-fried), alum (calcined to dryness) and costus, 5 don each. Powder them, make pills the size of a firmiana seed with ginger-juice paste, coat with cinnabar, and swallow seventy or eighty with ginger decoction. — Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Sin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The processing is the formula. Six nyang of pinellia split and fermented two ways, three nyang of arisaema split and steeped two ways — the point of which is to detoxify both drugs and, in the Hoechun's reading, to give each half a different reach. **Leave the cinnabar coating off.** What remains is a defensible wind-phlegm formula and the one 5.13 names first for the fat patient. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
