Translation

Treats wind stroke with phlegm confusing the orifice of the heart. That is, Dodam-tang with polygala, acorus, scutellaria, coptis and cinnabar added, which is called Nyeongsin-dodam-tang. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The spirit-directed modification of Dodam-tang, and the one whose five additions divide neatly: polygala and acorus to open the heart orifice, scutellaria and coptis to take the heat out of the phlegm, and cinnabar to weigh the spirit down. It covers the same indication as Cheongsin-haeeo-tang and Uhwang-jeongji-hwan elsewhere in the chapter and does so with far fewer drugs. The cinnabar is mercuric sulphide and is the reason the formula as written cannot be prepared; without it the remaining eleven drugs are a usable prescription. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
