Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治中風痰盛ㆍ語澁ㆍ眩暈. 卽<a href='/formulas/dodam-tang'>導痰湯</a>《方見痰飮》加羌活ㆍ白朮, 名曰祛風導痰湯. 《入門》

Translation

Treats wind stroke with exuberant phlegm, rough speech and dizziness. That is, Dodam-tang with notopterygium and atractylodes added, which is called Geopung-dodam-tang. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

One of the four named modifications the Wind chapter attaches to Dodam-tang in a single line, each adding a layer for a different mover of the phlegm: cyperus and the aromatics for qi, coptis and scutellaria for heat, polygala and acorus for the spirit, and here notopterygium and atractylodes for wind and damp. Of the four this is the one the Wind chapter is really about, since the phlegm it treats is the phlegm wind has stirred.
