A second formula of this name: the Fire chapter builds it on a placenta carried in the powder of Palmibosin-hwan, where the Immun formula registered at bocheon-hwan carries phellodendron, tortoise plastron, anemarrhena, eucommia, achyranthes, schisandra, tangerine peel and dried ginger. The two are registered separately.

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治陰虛骨蒸發熱羸瘦. 紫河車洗淨, 以布絞乾, 用<a href='/formulas/palmibosin-hwan'>補腎丸</a><span class='sochu'>方見虛勞</span>藥末, 擣細焙乾, 再硏爲末, 酒煮米糊和丸梧子大. 每服七八十丸. 夏加五味子. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats yin vacuity with steaming bone, fever and emaciation. A placenta washed clean and pressed dry in cloth, with the powder of Palmibosin-hwan 補腎丸 <span class='sochu'>formula in the Vacuity Taxation chapter</span>; pound it fine, dry it over heat, grind it again to a powder, and make pills the size of a paulownia seed with rice paste boiled in wine. Seventy or eighty pills a dose. In summer add schisandra. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A placenta as the whole of the medicine, with the eight ingredients of Palmibosin-hwan serving as the vehicle rather than the other way round. 補天, mending the heavens, is the claim: the congenital endowment is what is held to be short, and placenta was the one substance thought able to replace it. 骨蒸發熱羸瘦 — steaming bone, fever and wasting — was most often tuberculosis in this period, and nothing here treats it. **Prepared from human placenta.
