Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

補陰虛. 紫河車一具(製法如上), 入黃柏ㆍ龜板各二兩, 知母ㆍ杜沖ㆍ牛膝各一兩, 五味子七錢, 陳皮ㆍ乾薑各五錢. 右爲末, 酒糊和丸梧子大. 溫酒或白湯下七十丸. 《入門》《丹心》

Translation

Supplements the vacuous Yin. One placenta, prepared by the method above; add phellodendron and turtle plastron, 2 nyang each; anemarrhena, eucommia, and achyranthes, 1 nyang each; schisandra 7 don; tangerine peel and dried ginger, 5 don each. Clinical commentary 臨床

The leanest of the placenta formulas — nine ingredients where the Great Creation pills run to sixteen. Phellodendron and turtle plastron carry the cooling and anchoring, eucommia and achyranthes address the lumbus, and five don each of tangerine peel and dried ginger keep a formula this rich and cold from sitting in the stomach.
