Donguibogam

Translation

Treats sudden severe pain within the ear. Glauberite (calcined) 4 nyang; cuttlefish bone and talc 1 nyang each; borax 3 don; calomel 1 don. Powder them, mix with sesame oil to a paste, and work it into the ear on a paper wick — the pain stops at once. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · I)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Glauberite at four nyang makes it chiefly a cooling powder, in oil so it stays where it is put. 痛立止 — the pain stops at once — is the claim, and a cold oily paste in an inflamed canal would in fact ease it. **Contains calomel, which is toxic.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
