Translation

Treats wind heat in the kidney channel with pus running from within the ear. Dried rouge, cuttlefish bone, calcined alum, dragon bone, halloysite, litharge (calcined), chalcanthite, indigo, borax and coptis 1 don each; borneol 2 pun; musk 1 pun. Powder finely; first clear away the pus and water, then blow the medicine in. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · I)

Clinical commentary 臨床

All four of the chapter's ear powders begin the same way — 先去膿水, first clear the discharge — and that instruction is the sound part of them. The Hoechun's is the most elaborate and the most heavily mineral. **Contains litharge and chalcanthite, both toxic; musk is CITES-listed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
