Translation

Treats lily disease after vomiting. Lily bulb, seven; egg yolk, one. First soak the lily bulb in water overnight — a white froth will come out — discard that water, then decoct in two seung of well water, take one cup and strain off the dregs, stir in the egg yolk evenly, and take warm. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two ingredients, and the second is food. Vomiting empties the stomach of its yin, and egg yolk is the classical restorative for exactly that — rich, moistening, and taken without cooking so that none of its substance is driven off. The instruction to stir it in after straining, off the heat, is the operative detail: heat the yolk and it sets, and a set yolk is no longer a fluid-restoring drug. The same move appears in Huanglian Ejiao Decoction, which uses yolk the same way for the same reason. Simple, and still a reasonable thing to give a convalescent who cannot face food. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
