Clinical commentary 臨床

Oryeong-san's water-movers joined to Hyangyu-san's summerheat drugs, with coptis added. The indication is the sharp one — a summer diarrhoea on the point of turning into dysentery — and that is a real clinical moment: a watery summer diarrhoea that begins to pass blood and mucus has usually become an invasive bacterial infection. Coptis stir-fried in ginger juice is the chapter's standard way of giving berberine without its coldness, and berberine does have measurable antibacterial action against the organisms in question. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
