Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治老人ㆍ虛人大便閉結. 蜂蜜 一兩, 香油 五錢, 朴硝 一撮. 右合水一鍾, 煎數沸, 溫服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats the stool shut and bound in the old and the depleted. Honey, 1 nyang; sesame oil, 5 don; crude mirabilite, a pinch. Combine with a bowl of water, bring to the boil several times, and take warm. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three ingredients, none of them a drug in any strict sense: honey, sesame oil and a pinch of sodium sulphate in hot water. That is an osmotic laxative with a lubricant and a sweetener, and it is close to what a pharmacy would dispense for the same complaint now. Of everything in this chapter it is the formula that has aged best. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
