Translation

Treats the stool bound and inhibited and long unpassed. Hemp seed, a cupful and a half, ground fine, steeped in water, strained free of the husks and the juice taken; sesame, half a cupful, ground fine and steeped in water for its juice; peach kernel, 1 nyang, ground to a paste; schizonepeta spikes, 1 nyang, pounded to a powder. Mix them together, add a little salt, decoct, and drink it in place of tea until the stool passes freely. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three seed oils and a wind drug, with salt, drunk in place of tea until the bowel opens — which makes it a therapeutic drink rather than a dose. The instruction to take it until the stool passes freely puts the endpoint in the patient's hands, and since nothing in it is purgative there is little to go wrong. The salt is worth noting: a saline-and-oil drink is close to what an osmotic laxative does. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
