Translation

Treats the stool bound and inhibited in the old and the depleted. Three large scallion whites with their roots on, boiled in a cup of fresh water until soft, then discarded; put in 2 don of clear beaded ass-hide glue and two spoonfuls of honey, stir until melted, and take on an empty stomach. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Scallion boiled and thrown away, leaving its decoction as the base for glue and honey — gelatin and sugar in warm water, drunk on an empty stomach. There is no purgative in it and no theory beyond moistening, and for a frail old patient it is both safe and likely to help. It is the gentlest prescription in the chapter. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
