Translation

Treats the stool bound; both the old and the depleted may take it. Peach kernel and pine nuts, one hop each; bush-cherry kernel, 1 don. Pound them to a pulp together, mix with water and strain for the juice, add a little broken polished rice, boil it into a gruel and take on an empty stomach. — Sokbang 俗方 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A Korean household recipe, and one of the few places the Bogam cites its own vernacular tradition rather than a Chinese text. Three oily kernels and rice: pine nuts make it palatable, bush-cherry kernel gives it a mild purgative edge, and the result is food. For habitual constipation in a frail patient this and the perilla gruel are the two best things in the chapter. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
