Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治咽喉腫痛, 眼赤口瘡, 心煩鼻衄. 梔子(微炒) 一兩二錢, 甘草(蜜灸) 六錢, 石膏四錢, 瓜蔞根ㆍ縮砂各三錢, 藿香葉二錢四分. 右爲末, 每二錢, 或三錢, 蜜水調下. 《海藏》

Translation

Treats throat swollen and painful, eyes red and sores in the mouth, vexation of the heart and nosebleed. Gardenia (lightly stir-fried) 1 nyang 2 don; licorice (honey mix-fried) 6 don; gypsum 4 don; trichosanthes root and amomum 3 don each; agastache leaf 2 don 4 pun. Powder them and take 2 or 3 don stirred into honey water. — Haejang 海藏 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The name promises borneol and the composition contains none — the Bogam records the formula as it stands in its source. What it does contain is gardenia at more than half the total weight, with gypsum behind it. Amomum and agastache are the unexpected pair: both are warm aromatics in a cold formula, and they are there to keep so much gardenia from chilling the stomach.
