Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

歌曰, 紫癜白癜兩般風, 附子硫黃最有功, 薑汁調勻茄蒂蘸, 擦來兩度更無蹤. ○右附子ㆍ硫黃等分爲末, 以茄蒂蘸醋, 點藥末擦之. 紫癜用紫茄, 白癜用白茄. 《得效》 ○丹溪方用白附子.

Translation

A verse runs: purple lichen and white lichen, two kinds of wind — aconite and sulphur have the most effect; mix them evenly with ginger juice, dip an aubergine stalk, rub it on twice and there will be no trace left. Powder aconite accessory root and sulphur in equal parts; dip an aubergine stalk in vinegar, pick up the powder with it and rub it on. For purple lichen use a purple aubergine, for white a white one. Clinical commentary 臨床

Two medicinals, a verse to remember them by, and an aubergine stalk for an applicator — purple aubergine for the purple patches and white for the white, which is sympathetic reasoning made into a dispensing instruction. The verse form marks it as something passed by mouth rather than read out of a book. **Contains aconite accessory root and sulphur, applied to the skin.
