Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治痔漏二三十年不愈者, 三服效. 蓮花蘂ㆍ黑丑頭末各一兩半, 當歸五錢, 礬紅二錢. 右爲末, 先忌食肉六七日, 空心食肉一頓, 取溫酒下藥三錢, 取下膿血或蟲是效. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats fistulous piles of twenty or thirty years' standing, and three doses answer. Lotus stamen and the first powder of black morning-glory seed 1 nyang 5 don each; angelica 5 don; red alum 2 don. Powder them; first abstain from meat six or seven days, then eat a single meal of meat on an empty stomach and take 3 don of the medicine with warm wine, and it answers when pus and blood, or worms, come down. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Hueum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

先忌食肉六七日, 空心食肉一頓 — abstain from meat a week, then eat one meal of it. The meat is bait, on the belief that the worms will come up for it and be carried out by the purge that follows. The reasoning is wrong; the week of fasting before a purge is not. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
