Soft talc, calcined, ophicalcite, calcined, and chicken gizzard lining, 5 don each; bletilla 3 don 5 fun; ampelopsis root 2 don 5 fun; red lead and frankincense, 1 don each. Powder them and dust on dry; marvellously effective. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Ongjeo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A dry dusting powder, not a paste: four-fifths of it by weight is calcined mineral and gizzard lining, which is to say an absorbent inert dust that takes up the discharge from an open sore and leaves a crust. Bletilla and ampelopsis root add the little that binds; frankincense is for pain. This is the counterpart of the pastes above — those are for a swelling still closed, this is for one already open. 乾糝, dusting on dry, is the chapter's word for this whole class of powder and is worth keeping distinct from the pastes and the washes. The aim named in the title, 斂, is to make the mouth of the sore draw in. **Contains red lead, which is lead tetroxide and is absorbed from a raw wound surface. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
