Donguibogam

Translation

Treats any sore that has long failed to close. Bletilla, ampelopsis root, phellodendron, coptis, frankincense, musk and red lead, in equal parts. Grind them to a very fine powder and dust it on the sore; in two or three days flesh is raised and the wound levels out. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Ongjeo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Named for its colour: red lead in equal part with the rest gives the powder its peach tint, and the name is a dyer's name, not a claim. Otherwise it is the chapter's standard closing powder — the two binding roots, the two bitter yellows for the surface, frankincense for pain — with musk added, which is what distinguishes it from 斂瘡散 and marks it as the expensive version. 二三日生肌平滿, flesh raised and the wound level in two or three days, is too fast for any wound that has been open long enough to be called 久不合. Granulation takes longer than that. **Contains red lead, which is lead tetroxide and is absorbed from a raw wound surface, and musk, which comes from a CITES-protected deer. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
