Translation

Treats the black flower screen, which arises when the gallbladder receives wind and cold. Saposhnikovia and aloe 1 nyang each; coptis, scutellaria, schizonepeta spikes and gentian 5 don each; broomcorn seed and phellodendron 2 don 5 pun each. Powder them, make honey pills the size of parasol-tree seeds, and take thirty on an empty stomach with mint decoction. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The indication says wind and cold and the formula is entirely cold and bitter — because a wind cold received in the gallbladder is held to turn to heat there, and it is the heat that reaches the eye. Aloe at a full nyang beside saposhnikovia is the Deukhyobang's choice, and it is a purgative: the black flowers are to be drained downward, not dispersed. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
