Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治中脘氣滯, 噫氣呑酸, 嘔逆痰涎. 木香ㆍ白豆蔲ㆍ檳榔ㆍ縮砂ㆍ枳殼ㆍ厚朴ㆍ半夏ㆍ靑皮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ甘草ㆍ大黃ㆍ芒硝各八分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三棗二, 水煎服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats qi stagnant at the middle venter, with belching and acid swallowing, retching counterflow and phlegm drool. Costus, round cardamom, areca, amomum, bitter orange, magnolia bark, pinellia, green tangerine peel, tangerine peel, licorice, rhubarb and mirabilite 8 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct in water and take. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Ten qi-movers with rhubarb and mirabilite at the end — the formula opens the middle and then takes what was freed out below. That pairing is what the name means: penetrating the diaphragm rather than merely soothing it. The presentation described, with belching, acid rising and retching, is reflux, and 1.24 treats it as qi that will not descend. **Contains rhubarb and mirabilite.
