Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治中風口眼喎斜ㆍ半身不遂ㆍ痰涎壅盛ㆍ語言蹇澁ㆍ行步艱難ㆍ精神不爽. 烏藥一錢半, 川芎ㆍ白芷ㆍ桔梗ㆍ陳皮ㆍ白朮ㆍ甘草各一錢, 麻黃ㆍ枳殼ㆍ人參各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三片, 棗二枚, 水煎服. 《得效》 ○一名祛風通氣散. 《入門》

Translation

Treats wind stroke with deviation of the mouth and eye, hemiplegia, phlegm drool congesting, halting and rough speech, difficult walking and a spirit not bright. Lindera, 1 don 5 fun; chuanxiong, angelica dahurica, platycodon, tangerine peel, atractylodes and licorice, 1 don each; ephedra, bitter orange and ginseng, 5 fun each. Clinical commentary 臨床

The opening formula of the 諸風通治 section — the formulas for treating every wind alike — and a straightforward lindera-led qi-mover with a little ephedra to reach the surface. The indication lists six symptoms and claims all of them, which is what a general formula does; the useful reading is that lindera, bitter orange and tangerine peel are a mild and tolerable combination for the long haul, and this was the prescription a physician left a stroke patient on between the sharper interventions. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
