Translation
Treats stomach reflux, and is said to have the power of calling back the dying. One dung ball; musk, 1 fun; catechu, 2 fun; golden-thread yellow alum, 3 fun; cinnabar — 2 fun in spring, 4 in summer, 6 in autumn, 8 in winter. ○ The ball is the earth-sugar ball, that is, the pellet rolled by the dung beetle. They are to be found anywhere under dung and earth; use one with a white grub inside, the size of a finger, like a chafer larva. Break a small opening in the ball, cover it over, calcine it in the fire until it is a deep yellow with its nature preserved, taking care not to char it, and grind it with the other drugs, ball and all, into a powder; give it stirred into distilled spirits on an empty stomach. If the patient feels hungry, boil a gruel of millet and let him take a little at a time, two or three times a day, and he must not eat much — a bowl and a half a day is enough, for if he takes more the illness returns and cannot be cured. Raw and cold food, rich flavours, scallion and garlic, wine and wheat foods, and vexation are all to be avoided. In a patient over fifty, one or two doses work at once. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Guto)
