Translation

Treats stomach reflux. One large aconite root: set it on a brick, bring fire to it on all four sides so that it is driven in by degrees, and quench it in fresh ginger juice; roast it and quench it again, until about half a bowl of the juice has been taken up. Pound it to a powder and give 1 don stirred into millet gruel water; not more than three doses are needed for a cure. Or add 1 don of cloves and powder them together. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

**Contains aconite, which is toxic. This must not be prepared.** Repeated roasting and quenching in ginger juice is a processing method meant to reduce the toxicity, and the fact that the Bogam gives so elaborate a procedure is itself a measure of how dangerous the raw root was known to be; it does not make the product safe. The vehicle is millet gruel water, as in Talmyeong-dan above — the chapter reaches for starch water whenever it has to get something into a stomach that will not hold food. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
