Clinical commentary 臨床

The small version of Bangpung-tongseong-san, and the trimming is intelligent: the ephedra, gypsum and mirabilite are gone, rhubarb alone keeps the purging, and juncus pith and bamboo leaf are added to lead heat out through the urine. The indication narrows to match — headache, sore throat, swollen cheeks, which is to say a wind-heat throat infection rather than a stroke. It sits in the wind chapter because the Xuanming's wind-heat category covered both, and a modern reader will find it more useful for the throat than for anything cerebral. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
