Translation

Treats the same as Tongseong-san; it can clear the spirit, brighten the will and free the qi and blood. It is Tongseong-san without the ephedra and mirabilite, and with calcite, ginseng and amomum; the method of compounding and of taking are also the same. — Seonmyeongbang 宣明 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A modification stated purely as a difference, which is how the Xuanming's author Liu Wansu recorded his own variants. Drop the ephedra and the mirabilite — that is, stop forcing sweat and stop purging — and put in calcite, ginseng and amomum: cold without the salt, support for the qi, and an aromatic to protect the stomach. The result is the same formula made fit for repeated use rather than for a single assault, and the stated aim, clearing the spirit and brightening the will, matches that. For a hypertensive patient with headache and agitation it is the safer of the two. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
