The Donguibogam has two formulas named 消風散. The other, from the Oegwa Jeongjong, is a thirteen-drug wind-damp skin formula built on 荊芥ㆍ防風ㆍ蟬蛻ㆍ牛蒡子ㆍ苦參ㆍ蒼朮ㆍ木通ㆍ石膏ㆍ知母ㆍ生地黃ㆍ當歸ㆍ胡麻仁ㆍ甘草 and is registered as sopung-san without a source_hanja, so by house rule it keeps the bare id; this three-drug Yuchwi leaf in the sores chapter takes the chapter tail. The two share nothing but the name. The transcription writes 晩, which is also the corpus majority, and that form is printed.

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

第一日服. 白芷ㆍ全蝎ㆍ人參各一兩. 右爲末, 每二錢, 勿食晩飯, 次日空心溫酒調下, 身上微燥爲效. 《類聚》

Translation

Taken on the first day. Dahurian angelica, whole scorpion and ginseng, 1 nyang each. Powder the above; 2 don to a dose. Eat no supper, and the next morning on an empty stomach stir it into warm wine and send it down. A faint dryness over the body is the sign that it has taken. — Yuchwi 類聚 (Donguibogam · Jechang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs for the first of three days. The 大風瘡 section sets out a fixed cycle — 正月初一日服消風散, 初二日服追風散, 初三日服磨風丸, 又如此周而復始 — and this is day one, the opening dose that the purge of day two and the long wind-dispersing pill of day three are built on. The supper before is skipped so the powder goes down on an empty stomach, and 身上微燥, a faint dryness over the body, is the only endpoint given. Dahurian angelica and scorpion against the wind, ginseng to hold the patient through a course that will shortly include a violent purge. The dose is small and the formula is a preparation rather than a treatment in itself. **Contains whole scorpion, which is toxic.** 大風瘡 is Hansen's disease. The chapter is honest about the outcome — 嘗治四五百人, 終無一人免於死, four or five hundred treated and not one escaped death — and nothing in this cycle could have cleared a mycobacterial infection.
