Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治熱痰咳嗽, 脉洪面赤煩渴. 黃芩一兩半, 南星ㆍ半夏(並製) 各一兩. 右爲末, 薑汁浸蒸餠和丸梧子大, 薑湯下五七十丸. 《易老》

Translation

Treats heat phlegm with cough, a surging pulse, a red face and vexing thirst. Scutellaria, 1 nyang 5 don; arisaema and pinellia, both processed, 1 nyang each. Grind to a powder, make pills the size of a paulownia seed with steamed cake soaked in ginger juice, and give fifty to seventy pills down with ginger decoction. — Yeokro 易老 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The hot member of the Yeokro trio — the same arisaema and pinellia base as Gangye-hwan and Baekchul-hwan, with scutellaria at a nyang and a half above them instead of cinnamon or atractylodes. Three signs are given to identify the pattern and all three are objective: a surging pulse, a red face, thirst. **Contains arisaema and pinellia, both toxic in the raw state, and must be properly processed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
