Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治牙宣出血. 百草霜ㆍ小薊ㆍ香附子ㆍ蒲黃(炒) 各五錢. 右爲末, 常揩牙齒上, 立止. 《得效》

Translation

Treats bleeding from receding gums. Stove soot, cephalanoplos, cyperus and cattail pollen (stir-fried) 5 don each. Powder them and rub on the teeth regularly; it stops at once. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Stove soot is charcoal, and rubbed on the gums it is a black astringent powder — the same principle as the ash formulas at 1.25, applied topically. Cyperus is there so the stanching does not bind. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
