Translation

Treats the lid margins drawn tight so that the lashes turn in and curl, both lids red and ulcerated, the eye painful with running tears and a hidden roughness hard to open. Licorice 2 don; pueraria 1 don 5 pun; saposhnikovia 1 don; vitex 5 pun; asarum 2 pun. Cut up as one packet, decoct in water, and take after food. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Five medicinals with licorice at the head of them — the lightest formula in the whole chapter, and Dongwon's reading is that the lid has been drawn tight by heat and needs relaxing rather than clearing. Pueraria to slacken the sinew and licorice to moderate; the two tiny drugs at the end carry it to the eye. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
