Translation

Treats the eyeball unable to return to the centre, which is called the windlass turning on its axle. Asparagus, leonurus seed and anemarrhena 1 don each; ginseng, red poria and notopterygium 7 pun each; schisandra and saposhnikovia 5 pun each. Cut up as one packet, decoct in water, and take after food. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The windlass turning on its axle is one of the Bogam's best images: an eye that rolls and cannot come back to centre, named for the pulley over a well. The formula is cooling and moistening rather than wind-dispersing, so the Immun reads the rolling as yin too dry to hold the eye — which is a different account from the chapter's usual one. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
