Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治脾受風毒, 倒睫拳毛刺痛. 穿山甲(炒)ㆍ川烏(炮)ㆍ甘草(灸) 各五錢, 蟬退ㆍ蚕退ㆍ蛇退醋煮ㆍ猪蹄退(炒)ㆍ荊芥穗各二錢半. 右爲末, 每二錢, 鹽湯調下, 食後. 《入門》

Translation

Treats the spleen receiving wind toxin with inturned and curled lashes and stabbing pain. Pangolin scale (stir-fried), aconite main root (blast-fried) and roasted licorice 5 don each; cicada slough, silkworm slough, snake slough (vinegar-boiled), pig's hoof sheath (stir-fried) and schizonepeta spikes 2 don 5 pun each. Powder them and take 2 don at a time after food, stirred into salt decoction. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Five sloughs again, but a different five — the silkworm and snake kept, the eggshell and hair replaced by a pig's hoof sheath and a pangolin scale, both of them things that peel. Inturned lashes are a mechanical problem that no powder reaches; the Bogam's own answer for it elsewhere is to pull the lashes and cauterize the root. **Contains pangolin scale, from a species whose trade is prohibited, and aconite main root, which is toxic.
