Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治腎疸, 目黃尿赤. 蒼朮一錢, 升麻ㆍ羌活ㆍ防風ㆍ藁本ㆍ獨活ㆍ柴胡ㆍ葛根ㆍ白朮各五分, 猪苓四分, 澤瀉ㆍ神麴ㆍ人參ㆍ甘草各三分, 黃芩ㆍ黃柏各二分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《正傳》

Translation

Treats kidney jaundice with yellow eyes and red urine. Atractylodes lancea 1 don; cimicifuga, notopterygium, saposhnikovia, ligusticum, pubescent angelica, bupleurum, pueraria and white atractylodes 5 pun each; polyporus 4 pun; alisma, medicated leaven, ginseng and licorice 3 pun each; scutellaria and phellodendron 2 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Uihak Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Six wind medicinals in a jaundice formula, which looks wrong until the design is read: this is Dongwon's method of raising damp out through the surface rather than draining it downward. Cimicifuga, notopterygium, saposhnikovia, ligusticum, pubescent angelica and bupleurum all lift, and only polyporus and alisma drain. 腎疸 as a category appears only here in the chapter and is not among the five jaundices of 5.2; the source groups it with taxation jaundice because both are read as depletion at the root. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
